Lurer du på hvordan det så ut på Alexander L. Kielland før ulykken? I 1980 var fotografering ikke noe alle holdt på med til daglig. Mobiltelefoner fantes, men de var så store at de måtte fraktes i koffert og ingen hadde innebygd kamera. Dessuten hadde de som jobbet på plattformen egentlig ikke lov til å ta bilder der, da brukt av blitz kunne medføre gnister og brannfare. Det er derfor ikke så mange bilder av interiøret på Alexander L. Kielland før ulykken, men noe finnes.
Granskningskommisjonen fikk til sendt foto av Alexander L. Kielland fra Oljedirektoratet. Bildene var unntatt fra offentligheten og skulle kun brukes i granskningkommisjonens arbeid. Både brevet fra Oljedirektoratet og fotoene er nå fritt tilgjengelige i Digitalarkivet her:
